Patch repairs
A patch repair is a short liner used to fix one defect rather than a whole run. If a single joint has opened or one section has cracked, there is no sense in lining thirty metres of sound pipe.
It is the cheapest permanent repair available for a localised fault, and it is done without digging.

- One cracked or displaced joint identified on a survey
- Roots entering at a single point
- A small hole or fracture in an otherwise sound run
- Water getting in or out at one identifiable spot
How we deal with it
- 01Locate precisely. The survey gives the distance from the chamber, so the patch goes exactly where the defect is.
- 02Prepare. The section is cleaned and any root growth cut out first.
- 03Set the patch. The patch is positioned on a packer, inflated against the pipe wall and cured in place.
- 04Prove it. Filmed again afterwards and the footage is yours.
What it costs
Our hourly rate, the same as everything else. A patch is a short job compared with lining a full run, which is exactly why we look before we do anything.
When you do not need it
Where a survey shows several defects along the same length, patching each one is usually false economy and a single liner works out better. Which approach makes sense comes down to what the footage shows.
Common questions
- How is this different from relining?
- Same principle, different scale. A patch fixes one defect, a liner reconstructs a whole length. The survey decides which is appropriate, not a price list.
- Will it reduce the bore of the pipe?
- Very slightly, by a few millimetres. In practice it makes no measurable difference to how a domestic drain flows.
