Pipework and build eras

More a twentieth century village than a historic one. It was still only 347 people in 1900. Growth began in the second decade of the century along The Avenue, Crabtree Hill and Harewood Road, and accelerated after the war. Crabtree Green and Hollybush Green followed, Millbeck Green in the 1960s, then Bishopdale in the 1980s and Kingfisher in the 1990s at higher density. Much of the village centre was demolished in the 60s and 70s and rebuilt.

How long we are

Two or three miles down the A58. The shortest run we do. The A58 and A659 junction in the village centre is the only thing that holds it up.

Access and parking

The old core has stone properties tight to the lane, and the village is vocal about traffic speeds and weight limits, which is worth knowing before a tanker turns up. The estate housing at Millbeck Green, Bishopdale and Kingfisher has ordinary access.

Areas that differ

Conservation area since 2010, and the oldest housing is along Wetherby Road. Parts of Collingham and Linton sit in the Wharfe floodplain, and Collingham Beck floods flash after heavy rain, as it did in 2007. The Environment Agency flood warning area names The Avenue, Kingfisher, Osprey and Tern Roads, and properties around Bishopdale Drive. Storm Eva closed Linton Bridge in December 2015.
